The Uniqueness of The Lynnhaven Inlet

Updated: Feb 11, 2021

The Lynnhaven Inlet is an active fishing and recreational boating harbor located at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay just east of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. There is an extensive network of creeks and side channels that feed it, and most of them are well marked with good depths. There are a multitude of marinas, restaurants, and repair facilities in the area.

The Lynnhaven Inlet is the gateway to some of the best fishing in the world. The waters are also seasonally populated by fishermen looking for puppy drum, speckled trout, flounder, striper and more.

The boat ramp at Lynnhaven Inlet operates a bit differently than most others in Virginia. There is a small fee for launching here and they have folks who work at the ramp to keep things in order. Though things can get a bit crowded as barges, tugs, cranes, pilot boats, and service boats compete with fishing boats trying to navigate the narrow inlet, there's still plenty of room to move around.
